Two Timely Questions

Before we go any further down this road of change, of uncertainty, of worry and turmoil, let’s pause and reflect on our very recent past.

At our Ash Wednesday service (Can you believe February 26th was only 27 days ago?) we started exploring some questions that seem rather timely today.  Here’s two of the questions we asked on February 26th, to help jog your memory:

  • How do we walk as friends with each other in the broken places in life?  This pandemic has exposed some broken places, for sure.

  • How do we remember that Jesus is with us, even when our prayers go unanswered and Jesus seems to be silent?  Anyone have an unanswered prayer from the last week?  Me too.

To help us enter into these questions, through the season of Lent we’re picking up the spiritual practice of structured prayers around the beginning and the end of the day.

Before we look at a screen first thing in the morning, we pause and pray:

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart bring you delight, O Lord.

So how is this going for you?  Has your interaction with your screen become a form of meditation?  If you’re not sure, try turning off all your screens for a day, or for a few hours, or even an hour, and your heart will give you the answer.  Meditating on Christ will give you peace, meditating on a pandemic will give you something else.

In the evening, before the screens are plugged in and “do not disturb” or “off” is initiated, we pause and pray:

May the God of all mercy bless us and protect us and all those we love.

So how is this going for you?  Are you able to lean into the words of this ancient prayer from the Psalms and know that the God who loves all of us will love and protect all those we love?

Here’s some good news:  Because Spring Church celebrates active engagement around our common discipleship, if you’re frustrated or sad or anxious as you read this because you don’t know HOW to do this or even where to start, we got people ready to walk this road with you. Just let us know and you can practice this form of common discipleship with an uncommon friend. Also, know that we’ll have another opportunity as a church to practice meditation and rest together in the season of Easter!
